JOIN US Hello, my name is David Melton, Founder of the Petroleum Landman School, the nation’s premier school dedicated to teaching all aspects of ‘field’ land work. As the first school of our kind – we are dedicated to providing quality education to those who want to become ‘field’ landmen as well as the experienced ‘field’ and ‘in-house’ landmen who would further their education. I felt we needed to have a solid, ‘real life’ applicable experience foundation in creating our many courses. Therefore, I took my 33 years as a practicing landman, past senior manager of land three landman brokerage firms, VP of land and President of two oil companies, as well as being an oil and gas operator in several states and created, what many have said, is the best training of its kind. Petroleum Landman School fills in the gaps and offer courses that are crucial for your success that other schools just can’t provide. In addition, we have carefully chosen instructors who are, first and foremost, experienced petroleum landmen. Our current instructors include landmen who have long histories in being either ‘field’ and/or ‘in-house’ landmen and some are practicing landmen who are also practicing oil and gas attorneys. Some are executives and managers of oil and gas companies and/or land brokerage firms. This combined ‘real world’ experience is a rare and wonderful thing when it comes to teaching you the ‘pitfalls you need to avoid’ and what you ‘need to know’ to succeed as a petroleum landman. Simply put, learning from experienced land professionals, and not just a teacher who has no ‘real life’ experience, is absolutely critical – especially for those just starting out. David Melton,AAPL, OCAPL Mr. David Melton is the Founder and CEO of the Petroleum Landman School, LLC and has over 33 years experience in the oil and gas industry. He has worked both as an ’in-house’ landman and as a contract field landman. He has held the offices of V.P. of Land, later promoted to President of an exploration company based in southern Florida, and owned and operated a landman brokerage firm in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. In addition, Mr. Melton has drilled, owned, and operated wells in Oklahoma, Texas, and California until moving back to Oklahoma City. He has recently held the offices of general manager of a large landman brokerage firm based in Oklahoma City. The Success is Real  Many of our students over the years, upon graduation (some of which you can read in the testimonials) have successfully gone to work for oil & gas land companies performing tasks that range from running title to leasing, due diligence, creating run sheets, and held by production. In addition, other students have found jobs working as lease and/or land techs for various oil companies as in-house employees.
