Important Information:

Many ask what the market is like for new field landmen. As I’ve stated in my letter on the Home Page, the field landman profession is currently in high demand. You may have to knock on several doors before finding a company to work with only because they may not have a crew to immediately put you with. Keep trying if you are not immediately successful.
All students may attend future classes with the agenda they have previously taken, as needed for a refresher course, at no additional charge based upon seating availability.
We are in the process of adding several courses that cover such thing as Joint Operating Agreements and different acquisition and participation agreements. In addition we are working on classes that deal with project development, creating and maintaining well files, project budgeting, and surface damage issues. Availability of these courses will be announced on this site.

Q. What can I expect to be able to do once I've taken the course if I'm brand new to the business?

A. If you have no experience, depending upon which class or classes you take and how well you score on the tests and interact in the class and work shops, you should have the ability or knowledge of what is required to run mineral ownerships, negotiate oil and gas leases, and know your way around the courthouse. In addition, if you are put with a crew, you'll be able to ask questions of your co-workers that have a level of intelligence that won't take up as much valuable time as naive questions do.

Q. Does the manual mentioned in your website have information that will help me do my job?

A. Yes, it has terminologies, legal descriptions, and other valuable and useful information that will help you.

Q. Do your workshops in the class provide me with the skills to perform specific jobs or do they pertain more to a general job performance?

A. The courses cover a wide range of topics, but the workshops will provide detailed knowledge regarding running title and preparing ownership reports, calculating working interest and net revenue interest, and understanding the concept of well spacing.

Q. What does the tuition pay for?

A. It pays for the instructor's time and all of your class materials, such as the manual and a ‘form' folder which contains most of the forms you'll be dealing with.

Q. Can I come back for a refresher course?

A. Yes, you can come back at any time with no additional costs to any class for a refresher.

Q. Do you teach Texas land legal descriptions?

A. Yes, we have a full section on Texas Land Legal Descriptions and how they relate to your job you've been asked to perform.

Q. Do you teach what is necessary to negotiate and purchase oil and gas leases?

A. Yes, we have a work shop on preparing oil and gas leases, going over the different clauses of a base lease form and the different requirements that may be added or taken away from that base lease. We cover all of the necessary documents you'll need to provide your broker or company with once you've taken a lease. Making assignments of that lease and recording the lease. In addition, the manual has a complete tutorial regarding the different lease terms you'll encounter while leasing.

Q. Can you describe the test?

A. The combined course test has 65 essay type questions along with working questions that deal with land legal descriptions. It is an open book test.

Q. If I'm already an RPL, do you provide an affidavit that I would fill out to get my continuing education credits.

A. Yes, we have the official AAPL Affidavit of Completion that we will provide to you to fill out and send in to the AAPL. We will provide them with your test scores and numbers of hours you attended the class.

Q. Do I get a completion certificate upon passing the test?

A. Yes, we provide you with a ‘Completion Certificate' that describes the number of hours of instruction signed by your instructor. This is handed out after you pass the test. We offer no certification of landman only a Completion Certificate.

Q. Do you offer job placement assistance?

A. Yes, Depending upon how well you do in class we can make suggestions or assist you.

Q. How do we know when and where each class will be held?

A. The class schedules and locations will be kept by Teresa and will be posted on the website.

Q. What states are you teaching in?

A. Currently we are scheduling classes for Oklahoma and Texas.

Q. Can we pay the tuition by credit card?

A. Yes, you can pay only over the internet when you register for your class. Your credit card information will be secure and any information you put on the website will be held in confidence.
